I went to open a jpg image on my laptop today and, although the preview shows the image, when it opened it showed a large black square in Windows Photo Viewer. I had this once before, which I fixed by re-associating the file type with Windows Photo Viewer. This time that 'fix' failed to sort the issue out.

What's weird is that if I re-associate to use the Photo app in Windows 8 it opens the jpg perfectly. Please do answer to these questions for a better understanding.
